once upon a time, in new york city, there was a girl named adrienne yan who loved to doodle and color. her favorite possession was her big box of colorful crayons---the one with the sharpener in the back. growing up in the city, she developed an obsession with watching people. she loved looking at faces and clothes. she loved how everyone was different but sometimes the same. this was before digital cameras, so she would keep track of them in her sketchbooks. it was a good thing she also had an obsession with office supplies, so she never ran out of paper or pens. after she graduated with a bfa in illustration from parsons school of design, her doodles found themselves in some magazines that no longer exist (react, twist, ym), some that still live (gl, bust, family circle) and in some books that seem to be everywhere (stitch n' bitch).

these days, adrienne is wearing her sambas in the city of san francisco...
